Sexual abuse against women in Gaza: Gaza, which has been gripped by war and crisis for two years, is now telling its own story of devastation. Local men and some aid workers are sexually exploiting women. Women are being pressured into sexual relationships by luring them with basic necessities like food, water, and money. Sometimes, they are even exploited under the pretext of marriage.
Women, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that men directly demand sexual favors. Sometimes, under the guise of marriage, they are told, "I want to marry you" or "Let's go somewhere together." The situation is so dire that women are afraid to file complaints due to fear and social pressure.
According to Heather Barr of Human Rights Watch, the human rights crisis weakens people and results in an increase in sexual violence. The situation for women and girls in Gaza is unimaginable.
Some aid workers and local men obtained women's phone numbers under the pretext of registering or seeking help and made late-night phone calls, messages, and demands for sex. Women often blocked these calls. Agencies like UNRWA claim to have a zero-tolerance policy against sexual exploitation, but in reality, requests for aid and the threat of sexual exploitation persist.
War, hunger, water, and financial crises in Gaza have forced women into impossible choices. This situation poses a serious threat to human rights and security.
